How to Wear Tie Dye

Adults wearing tie dye? Yes, it's possible to do while still looking classy! Gone are the days of tie dying your dad's old shirts in your backyard; these tie dye pieces are legitimate fashion pieces! Tie dye was extremely popular for last year's spring/summer season thanks to Proenza Schouler and Rodarte. And for this year, tie dye is still going strong! Yes, you can still sport the "classic?" tie dye shirt, but there are so many more options now!

Tie-dye is proving to be absolutely beautiful when done properly. This dress (at right) looks great for the Summer months. It has no trace of the hippie looks because the dress is pretty tame and monochromatic for being tie dye. If you really want things muted down, try looking for tie dye that's all in one color.

The tie-dyeing techniques have changed too! These pieces aren't being tie-dyed but bleached. They're bleaching out patterns of a fabric that is already one color. It really makes this arts & crafts clothing more sophisticated.

Go for a tie-dye tank for those casual summer days at the beach/lakes. I like this VS tank (at right) because of how rough and classic it looks. It almost seems homemade; as if it were made by someone using dyes and rubberbands.

Keep the overall look less hectic by sporting a neutral bottom.

Tie-dye tip! Make sure all your tie-dye pieces still fit really well. Keeping the tie dye streamlined will help it look current. Tie dye doesn't have to have the same baggy look from the sixties!

The riskiest way to sport tie-dye would probably be in pant form. It's a lot of swirly patterns in an area women generally like to keep things looking slim. Nonetheless, I am in love with tie-dye pants, leggings, jeggings and denim! It's a great way to spice up an outfit.

Once again, if you're doing tie dye print on the bottom, try and avoid complicated prints on top.

My personal favorite way to sport tie dye? Tie-dye printed shorts and rompers in a thin fabric! It's fresh, comfortable and just enough print.

Accessories are probably the easiest way to incorporate tie-dye into your outfits. It's not difficult to coordinate since all you have to do is throw it on.

Also it's the perfect solution for those who shy away from loud prints but really want to try out this fun fashion trend!

Don't just stop at the jewelry! Try other fun accessories such as scarves, sunglasses, tights, nail polish (yes it's possible!) and purses.

Although some may initially say that doing a tie-dye shoe doesn't seem too overwhelming, it's absolutely not true! Committing to rocking a tie-dye shoe is a fairly intense investment. (These are Christian Louboutins after all).

Last Minute Tip!

If you're over-loading on tie-dye accessories (fab), please don't wear a tie-dye outfit on top of that! Keep it fresh and minimal!
